At the 66-th session of the UN General Assembly (September 13, 2011), the Republic of Kazakhstan initiated the Green Bridge Partnership Programme, which was supported by the decisions of the 6-th Ministerial Conference of Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP, 2010) and the 7-th Pan-European Conference "Environment for Europe" (UNECE, 2011).

At the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Brazil (RIO+20, 2012), the Green Bridge Partnership Programme was approved as an interregional, practical and voluntary mechanism for the transition to a green economy, open to the participation of all parties, which was included in the final document "The Future we want".
