On the eve of the World Environmental Protection Day in the Mangystau region, the largest enterprises and international organizations operating in Kazakhstan discussed ways to reduce the negative impact on the environment of production facilities. The conference is organized by the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources with the support of the United Nations Development Program.
The event was attended by Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serikkali Brekeshev, Akim of Mangystau region Nurlan Nogaev, UNDP Permanent Representative in Kazakhstan Yakup Berish, representatives of the industrial sector, international and Kazakhstani experts.
The participants got acquainted with advanced technological solutions to improve energy efficiency and reduce the burden on the environment, as well as the available opportunities to reduce carbon content in the framework of the implementation of "green" projects.
Also, such large enterprises as NCOC, Tengizchevroil, ERG, KPO B.V., etc. shared their experience in improving environmental indicators.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serikkali Brekeshev noted the importance of using the best available technologies in environmental protection.
"Taking into account the requirements of the time and international experience, the Environmental Code has been updated. The main directions are the introduction of the best available technologies, a focus on the normalization of environmental quality, tightening environmental requirements based on the best international practices. Today, the world community follows the principle of preventing environmental pollution, based on the use of the best available technologies", - Serikkali Brekeshev said.
In turn, the head of the region, Nurlan Nogayev, noted the importance of the issues discussed for the region.
"Today's meeting provides an opportunity to discuss global issues. Environmental protection is the main task of each of us. I am sure that the best practices demonstrated today by experts and organizations will find their application in our field and will help improve the environmental situation in the region", - Nurlan Nogayev said.
Within the framework of the conference, panel sessions were organized to discuss topical issues on BAT, the development of environmental technologies in the industrial sector, as well as on wood-carbon offset in Kazakhstan.
Thus, speaking as moderator of the panel session "Tools to reduce emissions into the atmosphere", Deputy Chairman of the Board of the "International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects" Yerlan Tasbayev highlighted the impact of global environmental challenges, including climate change, on countries around the world.
In his speech, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Center Aidar Yessembayev spoke about the activities of the Center to assist in Kazakhstan's transition to a green economy, in particular about the ongoing work on the development of BAT reference books, as well as their role in reducing the negative impact on the environment, as well as the international activities of the Center.
"Considering that BAT is no longer a trend in the field of environmental protection today, but is a necessary step for creating a favorable environment, industry needs to urgently take measures to switch to the principles of BAT, which will directly lead to automation and digitalization of industry, as well as make it possible to become transparent to society and the state on the eve of the global the global challenge associated with the growth of man-made heritage", - Aidar Yessembayev added.
Also within the framework of the Conference, the Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Center Yerlan Tasbayev was awarded a letter of thanks for his contribution to the development of environmental protection in honor of the World Ecologist's Day.
