The International Green Technologies and Investment Projects Center will discuss the introduction of a carbon tax.

In 2019, the European Commission launched a European Green Deal, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. One of the mechanisms to accomplish this task is the introduction of the European Carbon Corrective Boundary Mechanism (ECBM). This instrument provides for the collection of taxes on goods imported into the European Union, depending on their carbon footprint. The levy will be levied on imports of fossil fuels, which could have a negative impact on Kazakh exporters.

To discuss the ECBM mechanism and how it can affect Kazakhstan, IGTIPC will hold a paid online seminar on the Green Webinar platform from 17 to 18 August 2021 on the topic: “Carbon tax in the context of the Concept of low-carbon development of Kazakhstan”.

The program of the seminar provides for speeches by representatives of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhasyl Damu JSC, as well as a leading expert in the field of low-carbon development, Executive Director of the consulting company on climate change and sustainable development Coral future - Santosh Singh.

The following topics will be discussed during the seminar: Corporate environmental sustainability. World experience in the implementation of a carbon tax. Climate policy of Kazakhstan. The concept of low-carbon development in Kazakhstan. The introduction of renewable energy sources at the enterprises of Kazakhstan as an opportunity to reduce the carbon footprint. The seminar will be moderated by Mediyeva Gulbazar - Head of the Office of Scientific and Technical Department, CTS and GBI NJSC “IGTIPC”.

Representatives of fossil fuel and carbon-intensive industrial products manufacturing enterprises, students, university staff, and all interested parties are invited to participate in the seminar.
