STC meeting to review industry guides on transitioning manufacturing sectors to best available techniques (BAT)

On June 30, 2021, based on the International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects, an expanded meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, academician Bakytzhan Zhumagulov to consider industry guides for the transition of production sectors to the principles of the best available techniques (BAT).

The meeting was attended by members of the Scientific and Technical Council, well-known industry experts, leading scientists, and production specialists: Kulekeyev Zhaksybek, Baigarin Kanat, Artyukhina Galina, Altayeva Zaure, Estemesova Aksaya, Aldabergenova Saule, Arkhipkin Oleg, Ivan Radelyuk, Tusupova Kamshat, Elubaev Azamat and management and representatives of the Center Erenchinov Daniyar, Igenova Zhanar, Kuanbaeva Elena, Medieva Gulbazar, Kulmamirova Marzhan.

Today, the most urgent is the introduction of BAT in all industrial enterprises of Kazakhstan, in accordance with the implementation of the principles and mechanisms of the adopted New Environmental Code. This is a global practice that will undoubtedly contribute to the improvement of the ecological situation in the country. In this process, an important role is given to the development of industry reference books, which is carried out by the BAT Bureau at ICHTP. The directories serve as a normative document that allows you to achieve the lowest level of harmful emissions using the best available technologies. It will reflect the most advanced technologies, considering their adaptation to the regional conditions of the country's industrial sectors.

The experts reviewed the draft handbooks in the areas of "Oil and Gas Production", "Fuel Combustion at Large Installations for Energy Production", "Production of Inorganic Chemicals", "Cement and Lime" gave several comments and recommendations regarding conditions of Kazakhstan, their practical and scientific significance, thanks to which it is possible to achieve the minimum level of emissions of harmful substances on the environment. They also noted that it is necessary to pay special attention to socio-economic aspects in the development of reference books.

 In conclusion, the chairman of the NTS Bakytzhan Zhumagulov thanked all the experts for their professional work and noted that this is the first hearing, and all comments and recommendations will be sent directly to the developers for their elimination.
